Makeup 101: Contouring

20 Apr

If you’re like me, facial contouring with makeup is one of those things that sounds really cool in theory, but any attempts at home left you looking like you got in a bar fight rather than you have gorgeous cheekbones.

Lucky for me, I stumbled across a Kat Von D video tutorial that looked way too easy, so I couldn’t resist giving contouring one more chance. Sure enough, I followed Kat Von D’s steps using a bronzer and blush I already had at home, and the results were a thousand times better than anything I had tried. It gave a nice definition to the face, and I think the placement of the blush is key. It doesn’t go quite on the apples, but rather just a little past them and blended into the temples. For the longest I had followed the rule of only putting blush in the very apples of the cheeks. While it looked fresh and natural in my teens, lately I’ve felt like it has made me look too flushed, so I have definitely adopted this new blush placement technique.

I thought the overall look was perfect, but perhaps a little too much for everyday use, especially since my job requires minimal makeup. However, on the days I have a little extra time or I have somewhere to go, it is one of my new go-to looks. I like to add a just a bit of powder highlighter under the brow bone and on the top of the cheek bone in a “c” shape.

Kat Von D knows what she’s doing when it comes to makeup, and she always knows how to add a bit of drama.  I’ve always really liked Kat Von D.  I think she is a great artist and reminds me quite a bit of my sister, G!

Have Fun!
